What Remains: The Life and Work of Sally Mann

Sally Mann is an American photographer born in and raised in Lexington, Virginia where she got married and had her family. She is known for her photographs of landscapes, her children and family done in primarily black and white. Eventually she turned to photographing a series of death and decay inspired by her personal experiences to capture the changes her husband was going through during his illness. A lot of her work is controversial in which I understand. She didn't take ordinary family photos/portraits, she captured raw, vulnerable, real motherhood and family moments. Some of these included naked photos of her children in which society did not always agree with but I admire her dedication and perspective. The film showed us she had a unique perspective in viewing the world around her along with those around her and I think her photographs do capture that.
